FAMILIE MÜLLERMEIERSCHULZE
WHAT STAYS?
Memories are part and parcel of every family history. Pictures shape them and hold them permanent. But what happens to memories when one doesn’t know the story behind the pictures? When the situations aren’t ones own; when the faces are strange?
The abundant traces of very private insights are blurred in the imaginative fantasy of the beholder.
The work shows a constantly changing image (using automatic slide projectors), shifting from singular clarity to overlayed composites of an unknown family. The amount payed for the photographs (all purchased from ebay) is also displayed – raising questions about how we value photographs and memory.
